Do some destinations require additional paperwork and/or preparation?
Please note that certain destinations & types of cargo may require additional documentation and preparation.
For example: sending personal effects home to Singapore or the United Kingdom
(1) If you are returning to the United Kingdom & sending your personal effects
Even if the items are your personal belongings, the UK authorities may attempt to impose tax and duty.
You may be able to claim relief on this, by making a transfer of residence application. Once approved, your goods should hopefully be able to enter the UK without these charges being applied.

(2) Importing used household articles and personal effects into Singapore
Importing used household articles and personal effects into Singapore will incur Goods and Services Tax (GST).
You are required to apply for a Customs In-Payment (GST) permit to account for the import and the payment of GST.
You may be eligible for GST relief. Please see the tabs below for more information on the criteria for GST relief, application procedures and the types of used household or personal goods permitted for import.
